Initially this was mildly funky but as the wine sat in the glass it progressively cleaned up to reveal plenty of spice elements on the cool and restrained nose that has gone completely tertiary with its sous-bois infleted aromas. There remains plenty of energy on the overtly stony middle weight flavors that possess an excellent sense of delineation on the solidly complex and lingering finish. Unlike many '72s today the finish is not cracking up due to excessive acidity, indeed if well-stored this should continue to drink well for at least another decade.
