DRC performed exceptionally well in '91 and this Echézeaux is no exception. Reserved yet elegant nose that is a combination of sous-bois, dried flowers and spicy secondary aromatics followed by deep, rich, still tannic flavors that show uncommon depth and lots of buffering sève on the wonderfully long and attractively complex finish. For my taste, this has arrived at its peak though, based on this bottle, it appears to be holding extremely well. I would add that I have had very good consistency over the years save for one bottle which inexplicably was marred by noticeable brett.

The Echezeaux is usually DRC's lightest wine. The 1991 displays a deep ruby color, a tight but promising bouquet of smoky oak and rich red and black fruits, and moderate tannin in the finish. (RP)
