In the heart of the prestigious Pomerol appellation, Chateau La Fleur Petrus stands proudly across the road from the legendary Chateau Petrus and adjacent to Chateau Lafleur. This historic estate adopted its name from these iconic neighbors back in the 18th century, intertwining its destiny with some of the most revered names in the wine world.
The story of La Fleur Petrus took a significant turn in 1950 when Jean Pierre Moueix acquired the property. This marked the beginning of the Moueix family's deep roots in Pomerol, which later expanded to include other renowned estates like Chateau Trotanoy and the illustrious Petrus. Well known for crafting Merlot dominant wines, La Fleur Petrus is celebrated for its finesse, elegance, and remarkable longevity.
Spanning 18.7 hectares on the Pomerol plateau, the vineyard is characterized by its gravel-rich soil and is segmented into three parcels, each contributing unique characteristics to the wine. The northern parcel adds elegance and black cherry notes, the central parcel offers suppleness and plum hints, and the southern clay-rich area lends a velvety, structured profile with blackcurrant aromas.
La Fleur Petrus blends traditional and innovative winemaking techniques. After fermenting in thermo-regulated vats, the wine ages for 16-18 months in 50% new French oak, crafting a generous, complex wine with a silky texture from Merlot, complexity from Cabernet Franc, and a spicy finish from Petit Verdot.
In 2011, the world’s top wine critic Robert Parker shared 20 exceptional Bordeaux wines from the 2009 vintage that he believed offered extraordinary quality and value, creating “Robert Parker's Magical 20.” La Fleur Petrus secured its place on this prestigious list, with Parker describing the wine as “pure silk and seduction." Under Parker's influence, different vintages from the producer have seen a stable rise in recent years, capturing investment attention among wine collectors and enthusiasts.
La Fleur Petrus is more than just a name in the wine world; it is a testament to the artistry and dedication that define the Pomerol appellation. Each bottle encapsulates a legacy of excellence, offering wine lovers around the globe an unparalleled experience of elegance, depth, and historical richness at a reasonable priced point. Whether for a seasoned connoisseur or a new enthusiast, La Fleur Petrus represents an extraordinary viticultural journey.
