Step into the enchanting world of Chateau Pavie, where history and innovation blend seamlessly to craft extraordinary wines that delight the senses. Named after the lush peach orchards ("pavies") that once adorned its vineyards in ancient times, this prestigious estate boasts a rich legacy dating back to Roman era plantings.
Spanning 37 hectares on a sun-drenched plateau southeast of the village of St Emilion, Pavie boasts parcels that each offer a unique expression of the land. From the limestone plateau to the clay limestone hillsides and sandy clay foothills, the vineyard's diverse soils and microclimates nurture grapes of unparalleled quality, anchoring the estate in a magnificent terroir.
Under the management of the Valette family, Pavie was classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classe B in 1954. In 1998, the visionary entrepreneur Gerard Perse, who made his fortune in supermarkets, acquired the estate and embarked on a transformative renovation. Significant replanting and trellising were undertaken to optimize vine density. The proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc was increased, while Merlot now makes up 60% of the plantings. Perse aims for an even 50/50 split between Cabernet and Merlot to add more finesse. The new wines are known for their riper, fuller and more extracted expressions with high alcohol content. Under his leadership, Pavie soared to new heights in 2012 when it ascended to the prestigious rank of Premier Grand Cru Classe A.
While Pavie's wines are delightful in their youth, the true magic unfolds with age. As the complexities deepen and the textures mellow, the wines captivate connoisseurs with their opulent character and remarkable depth. Bursting with luscious fruit, velvety tannins, and exquisite minerality, each sip reveals a symphony of flavours - from ripe plum and blackberry to decadent chocolate and exotic spices.
Some of Pavie’s greatest vintages include 2000, 2005, 2009, and 2010, which achieved the maximum rating of 100 from Robert Parker. Indulge in the timeless allure of Chateau Pavie, where every bottle tells a story of passion, tradition, and the artistry of winemaking at its finest.
