Haegelen Jayer
Domaine Haegelen-Jayer traces its origins to the 1960s, born from the vision of Alfred Haegelen and his wife, Madeleine Jayer, niece of the legendary Burgundian winemaker Henri Jayer. Located in the prestigious village of Vosne Romanee, the Domaine’s vineyards extended across some of Burgundy’s most revered appellations, including Vosne Romanee, Nuits Saint Georges, and Chambolle Musigny. For decades, it produced wines that embodied the soul of these revered appellations. The curtain fell on this storied estate in 2009, with Alfred Haegelen’s retirement marking its final vintage, as the next generation chose not to carry forward the winemaking torch.
Among its holdings was a prized plot in the Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, specifically in the upper slope sector known as La Plante L’Abbé. This location, adjacent to Grands Echezeaux, benefits from superior drainage and optimal sun exposure, ideal conditions for cultivating refined, age worthy Pinot Noir. The shallow, limestone rich soils and presence of old vines contribute to concentrated fruit and a vivid expression of terroir.
Haegelen Jayer garnered a stellar reputation for crafting Pinot Noir wines of exceptional richness, concentration, and longevity. Although the domaine is no longer active, its legacy lives on through collectible bottles that continue to captivate Burgundy enthusiasts, cementing Haegelen Jayer’s place as a revered name in Clos de Vougeot’s storied history.
