In the ever-evolving landscape of Burgundy, few domaines have garnered as much attention and acclaim in the past decade as Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux. Originally known as Domaine Robert Arnoux until 2008, the domaine's transformation began with the arrival of Pascal Lachaux, Robert's son-in-law, in the mid-1980s. However, the winery experienced the most significant leap in quality and innovation came with Pascal's young son, Charles Lachaux, who took the helm in 2012.
Under Charles's leadership, Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux has become one of the most sought-after estates in the region, known for its exceptional wines. Charles has revitalized the estate by implementing regenerative agriculture, eco-grazing, biodynamics, goblet pruning, high trellising, and ceasing trimming entirely. His whole-harvest vinification, short vatting periods, and low-intervention methods have redefined the estate's approach.
By 2015, Charles had taken full control, coinciding with an exceptional vintage year that produced highly accomplished wines. In 2016 and 2017, he began to infuse his personal vision into the vineyard and winemaking processes, resulting in a significant rise in both quality and reputation. The year 2018 was particularly momentous as Charles unveiled a new label design and received mentorship and commendation from industry stalwart Lalou Bize-Leroy.
Lachaux's offerings are diverse yet produced in limited quantities. Their top wines include Grand Crus such as Echezeaux, Romanee Saint Vivant, Clos Vougeot, and Latricieres Chambertin. The Romanee Saint Vivant is intensely aromatic and sensual. We have enjoyed the Clos Vougeot on many occasions; it is a very pleasant wine characterized by purity, depth, and elegance. Additionally, they produce numerous high-quality Premier Crus, including Les Suchots and Les Reignots from Vosne-Romanee, and Les Proces from Nuits-St-Georges. These Premier Crus rival the depth of a Grand Cru and consistently deliver brilliance.
Arnoux's vineyards are planted with many precious old vines, which capture the essence of the vineyard's terroir and provide strong support for Charles's winemaking philosophy. With each evolution, the estate strives to best express the terroirs, producing "Pinot Noir" that evokes emotion and pleasure. Charles seamlessly merged the traditions of his century-old winemaking family with his unique insights, propelling Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux to the pinnacle of quality and prestige, captivating Burgundy enthusiasts worldwide.
Charles Lachaux introduced an exclusive negociant brand under his own name, debuting most wines with the 2018 vintage. This addition has infused his portfolio with an added layer of scarcity and allure.
