Vougeraie
Domaine de la Vougeraie stands as one of Burgundy's hidden gems, celebrated for its unwavering commitment to biodynamic viticulture. Its story began in 1964 when the family acquired their first plot in Gevrey Chambertin.
From the outset, the Domaine has upheld a deep respect for nature, embracing organic cultivation practices from day one. Over time, they have advanced to biodynamic farming, a philosophy centered on enhancing the richness of the soil’s ecosystem. By fostering the organisms that break down organic and mineral elements, the vines are nourished naturally, promoting strength, vitality, and resistance to disease.
In their dedication to biodynamics, Domaine de la Vougeraie employs a variety of methods, including traditional biodynamic preparations made from natural materials and phytotherapy techniques. They work diligently to enhance biodiversity in their vineyards and follow the Lunar Calendar for all key activities. These efforts create a harmonious balance between soil, vine, and human, unlocking the full potential of their terroir and reflecting it beautifully in their wines.
The Domaine is meticulous in its winemaking process. Grapes are harvested by hand at peak ripeness, with black grape fermentation incorporating whole bunches, either fully or partially, depending on the vintage. Both red and white grapes are fermented in oak, using only indigenous yeasts. The wines are then matured in oak barrels for 12 to 18 months, with around 20% new oak used. Every stage of the process adheres to the principles of biodynamics and the Lunar Calendar, ensuring a deep connection to nature throughout.
Today, Domaine de la Vougeraie spans the Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune, crafting a remarkable range of unique wines. Among these, their Musigny Grand Cru stands as a true flagship. With just 0.2104 hectares on an east-facing, steepish slope site, the vines were planted in 1970 and 1989, received Ecocert certification in 1999 and have been farmed biodynamically since 2001.
The Musigny Grand Cru captivates with its strikingly spicy and multi-layered bouquet, offering vibrant aromas of berries, anise, tea, lavender, violet, and rose petals. Its rich, concentrated flavours display exceptional weight and a lingering finish, bursting with vitality. This is a wine of extraordinary character, representing the pinnacle of their craft, brought to perfection by the Domaine’s unwavering dedication to quality and respect for nature.
