Domaine Charles Lachaux is a negociant brand led by Charles Lachaux. As both owner and winemaker of Domaine Arnoux Lachaux—one of Vosne Romanee's most coveted estates—its flourishing reputation is largely attributed to Charles Lachaux himself.
Unlike most negociant operations, this project began with an Aligote plot from their family estate, driven by a desire to craft unique wines brimming with vibrant fruit, aromatic complexity, and delicate texture.
Under a strong vision and a relentless pursuit of excellence in both viticulture and winemaking, the grapes are meticulously sourced and organically farmed, with the use of biodynamic preparations. This respect for living systems and nature has paid off, as their vines yield exceptionally healthy and balanced fruit. The efforts in the vineyard allow for gentle winemaking practices with minimal human intervention. Whole-bunch fermentation is employed to preserve the integrity of the wine's style, faithfully reflecting the character and conditions of each vintage. Charles's avant-garde and bold winemaking philosophy is fully realized in his negociant project.
Most of his negotiant wines debuted with the 2018 vintage, with the core being Bourgogne Aligoté Les Champs d’Argent, a wine that rivals the famed d’Auvenay Aligoté. Additionally, there are the Bourgogne La Croix Blanche and Cote de Nuits Villages Aux Montagnes, two red wines that can be enjoyed in their youth. Over the subsequent years, the range has expanded to include several Premier Cru and Grand Cru offerings. Beyond the wines themselves, what makes Charles Lachaux's wines stand out are the striking floral labels designed by Charles's wife and the harmonious pink and lemon-yellow wax capsules, which exude an air of distinction.
As the wines gained immense popularity, Charles Lachaux tightened distribution channels to maintain price stability and ensure long-term viability. Consequently, very limited bottles can be found on the market, making each one a rare find.
