Nestled in Premeaux Prissey, just south of Nuits Saint Georges, Domaine de l’Arlot is a historic estate often cited as a classic example of an old Burgundian Domaine in the Cote de Nuits.

Historical records indicate that Jean Charles Vineot owned houses and farmland in Premeaux towards the end of the 18th century. He constructed walls around the vineyard, creating the Clos de l’Arlot, today a renowned Premier Cru in Nuits Saint Georges.

After nearly two centuries of evolution, the estate was acquired in 1987 by AXA Millesimes, the wine arm of the insurance group, which also owns estates Chateau Pichon Baron and Chateau Suduiraut. The Domaine subsequently expanded with parcels in Vosne Romanee, including Les Suchots 1er Cru and Romanee Saint Vivant Grand Cru.

Since 2000, the estate has farmed organically, beginning a transition to biodynamics in 2003. It achieved official organic certification (Agriculture Biologique, or “AB”) in 2014. Today, all vineyards are cultivated biodynamically, without chemical fertilizers or synthetic products, allowing healthy soils and transparent terroir expression.

The estate’s sole Grand Cru is Romanee Saint Vivant. Their first vintage was in 1991, and the wine is typically aged for around 15 months in 30–50% new oak. It is a wine of remarkable depth and opulence, with intense aromas of black cherry, raspberry, blackberry cordial, and violet, evolving with age into notes of undergrowth and leather. The palate is richly layered, smooth, and silky, yet structured and profound, with exceptional complexity and expressive power. An archetypal expression of Romanee Saint Vivant.
