The Esmonin legacy spans generations in Gevrey Chambertin. Initially supplying their fruit to esteemed negociants such as Joseph Drouhin, Louis Jadot, and Leroy, the domaine underwent a significant transformation in 1988 when Frederic Esmonin joined his father, Andre, and commenced bottling under their own name. This family heritage runs parallel to that of Frederic's cousin, Sylvie Esmonin, daughter of Andre's brother, who manages her father's respected estate and crafts distinguished wines in the same village.
Frederic's winemaking philosophy embraces traditional winemaking. His Grand Cru wines are aged for 14-17 months in 80% new oak, developing profound complexity while honouring their terroir. The Mazis Chambertin, mostly red clay soils, produces powerful, structured wines with impressive depth. Nearby Ruchottes Chambertin, on lighter soils at higher elevation, yields more elegant and refined expressions. The estate also once produced Griotte Chambertin, known for its classic, full-bodied Gevrey style, until a sharecropping agreement ended.
These outstanding wines have solidified Domaine Frederic Esmonin’s reputation as one of the elite producers in Gevrey Chambertin, offering wine lovers authentic Burgundian expressions that deliver exceptional quality with remarkable value.
