Pale garnet. Pronounced nose - ripe and dried red fruits (cherry, strawberry, red currant), smoke, spice, Chinese tea, violets, forest floor, mushroom, truffle. Developing. Dry palate, high acidity, medium fine tannins, med+ body, med alcohol, long finish. Multiple layers of flavour, very silky. Outstanding. Fruit balanced by the acidity. Rich but not overly ripe. Great freshness despite the very hot vintage. Has great typicity. Finish goes on and on. This is drinking beautifully now. No doubt it will develop further tertiary complexity, but I like it whilst it still has some primary fruit.

A ripe but reasonably cool combination reflects notes of red and dark berry aromas where background aromas of earth, forest floor and discreet spice nuances. The exceptionally ripe, concentrated and powerful large-scaled flavors that coat the palate with sappy dry extract, all wrapped in a grippy, background and slightly warm finish. This is a very good 2003 but I confess that it is not what I personally look for in fine Clos St. Jacques. I would further note however that I have had some bottle variation with this wine as a bottle tried in 2017 was sufficiently bretty as to be undrinkable, at least for me.
