Low neck level. Relatively short cork which was soft but able to be removed intact via Durand. No evidence of seepage. Color ruby to garnet with translucent edge. Bottle was decanted and noted to have very little sediment. Wine was given about 20 minutes following decant before first pour. This was my first bottle of Heitz Martha's vineyard, I had deliberately sought out an older bottle in order to avoid some of the complaints about younger vintages and wanted a bottle that would hopefully feature the 'mint' component that this wine is noted for. The nose was initially somewhat muted but there was a pleasant dark berry, soft mint, and an aroma that I couldn't quite place (?part of the mint or the malt note discussed that is present on some older vintages). Nose strength and complexity improved after about 40 minutes along with an added note of coffee. Wine was medium bodied with good mouthfeel. Palate of berries with hints of mint and coffee. Finish was medium length with mild mouth dryness/tanninns at end. I will admit to being a bit surprised that this bottle was as good as it was. Agree with other reviews here that good bottles from this vintage still have potential for some years to com
