The fifth (!) of the 5 superstar cabs, Martha’s always shines for me, having had the ‘07 and ‘16 in the past 6 months or so. This edition is a bit darker, with some dark berries mixed in with red and black cherries, red currants, mixed spice garden led by mint, eucalyptus, cocoa husks and earthy minerality. Probably the most Old World of the bunch, there’s the always lovely balance and elegance of this bottling which, like the DC, never seems to quite get its due with CT or the “pros”. Didn’t pair with the food but likely a really good match with the usual fare of red meat. Fairly youthful with good potential for another 5+ years at this level, but this should be near its peak. Excellent showing, much enjoyed. 96-97+
