Subsequent notes on this wine from 10 years ago. Dark garnet in color with slight amber & clearing at the edges. Nose was initially funky which blow off with airing & developed into a full, forward, fragrant & attractive nose of mature, ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & kirsch with overtones of sous-bois, earthy/dusty & floral notes of violets, dried herbs, notes of mint & anise, truffles, spice notes & pepper, olives, leather, tobacco, minerals, a hint of smoke & meaty undertones in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe, fruit flavors of blackberries, dark cherries & plums with pepper, savory spices & dried herbs, mushrooms, minerals & a touch of toasty oak. Long, lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present & but at 30 years of age, it is at or close to its peak of development. Although it may hold here for a bit longer, I doubt any further development would occur with additional aging. A lovely Hermitage!
