The moment I popped the cork out I was overwhelmed by oak virtually reeking from the bottle. As I am not an oak monster fan, I thought I had minimal chance of liking this wine, but I was proven wrong. Yes - there was a lot of oak in this wine - more than I usually like, but there were also gorgeous fruit, snappy acidity and silky tannins to balance it out. After an hour and half or so in the glass, the wine was singing - there was almost no oak on the nose and the wood on the palate was sweet and very well integrated. Not overly complex, but this is tasty. I think this will benefit from another couple of years in the bottle, but certainly very approachable today.
