This is an extraordinarily ripe 2011 with notes of menthol, dried plum, spice, cassis and sauvage nuances. Despite the heightened ripeness levels there is still good energy to the tension-filled and overtly powerful flavors that possess much finer tannins compared to those of the Clos de Vougeot. This is really quite classy and while it's hugely long and altogether serious, it is notably less austere. Note however that like its grand cru stable mate, this will require plenty of bottle age.
