Jérôme Galeyrand is one of the rare producers capable of redefining lesser regarded appellations. His flagship Les Retraits rivals many more renowned and prestigious climats. After two hours of bottle aeration, it revealed a transcendent bouquet of violet, blue fruit, strawberry, cassis, black tea, subtle vanilla, liquorice, and forest floor. It showed greater palate density than the 2020 to 2022 vintages I have tasted, with incredible depth and satin like texture. In my opinion, most recent vintages of Les Retraits surpass its neighbour Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale, even under Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier.
