Level at mid shoulder. The cork was chalky and somehow still kept a seal. Colour was difficult to assess given the ambient light available, but appeared bright, with a light red/fawn hues. Seemed a little reticent at first. Closed. And then after 10 minutes in the glass, it just opened up beautifully, with typical old Bordeaux aromas. The palate was mid weight at most, with such wonderfully resolved tannins giving a silky structure. There was remarkably still some freshness and hints of black fruits amongst the the leathery, cedar and dusty flavours. It drank very nicely, and showed no signs of falling over in the 30 or so minutes I had it in the glass. A wonderful old bottle.
