70’s Bordeaux Blind Tasting: 2nd bottle on 2nd flight - The group was impressed by the 1st bottle on the 2nd flight, especially after a generally disappointing 1st flight. However, this 2nd bottle brought the game up one notch. Nose of black fruits, liquorice, peppers, spices. Palate of black fruits, mint leaves, eucalyptus, bell peppers. Nice long minty and lingering finish. Power and elegance at the same time - amazing for a 1973. I guessed this was either the Margaux 1973 or Pichon Baron 1978, and I am happy to be right as this showed the ageing potential of the First Growths. Best bottle for me for the night. Unfortunately, the wine did fade away rather quickly.
