The Perrot-Minot 2006 Mazoyères-Chambertin Vieilles is phenomenally intense in aroma and implosively-concentrated on the palate, featuring bitter-sweet blackberry and cassis, iodine, pungent herbal extractions, beef bouillon, and soy. Tenaciously-gripping in the manner of the Charmes, its saline, savory, pungently herbal, and medicinal aspects make for more invigoration and complexity than that wine. To some this will be a tonic, to some an incredibly sweet and savory sauce of grand cru Pinot, and perhaps to some a step too far in the direction of sauce reduction. It promises a 12-15 year life span.
