Immediately after being poured into a decanter: Nose: Ground, powdery gravel, dried, dusty currants, hint of sulfur, pencil lead, dried flowers, mushrooms. Palate: Pencil lead, currants primarily on the attack. Mid-palate gives way to anise and juicy but slightly tart plums. Tannins are integrated and almost undetectable, but their presence is evident from the smooth texture. Excellent acidity and equally excellent mouthfeel overall. This is not a tannic, structural beast but rather a very graceful, lithe Pauillac. Still plenty of life left ahead from what I'm tasting early on. After 4+ hours of decanting: Nose: Seems to have shed some of its earlier dusty/musty notes and the pencil lead dominates, followed by dark, ripe currants, soy, and dark chocolate. Palate: Smoke, gravel, pencil lead, dark cherries and dark currants on the attack. Soy and anise develop on the mid-palate and are joined by smooth tannins. The finish is medium in length and echoes hints of cherries and currants, with pencil lead checking in here and there. My experience is more aligned with MRBUZZ's, but I think my bottle is showing even a little better since there is nothing that gives any impression of being watered down. Tons of life and rich flavor from the bottle I opened, and the structural components have come together after 4 hours of decanting. Absolutely delicious.
