This pours light garnet in the glass with medium plus bricking throughout. The nose unfurls over 2 hours and becomes lightly complex and aromatic showing dried red currant, cigar ash, celery seed, mushroom, wet moss, cedar shavings, cumin seed, dried ginger, blood orange zest, and bay leaf. The palate is completely integrated with essentially no tannin remaining, but the acid is medium plus and has a lovely citrus tinge to it, keeping this very fresh. This is outstanding and almost 95. What a gorgeous wine!

The 1970 Cheval Blanc is drinking very nicely, offering up aromas of sweet plummy fruit mingled with notions of burning embers, tobacco leaf, violets and cedar. Medium-bodied, with a fleshy core of fruit, supple, largely melted tannins and a persistent finish, rumors of its demise are much exaggerated.
