There's a great feeling any oenophile gets when they open a bottle right in the prime of its life and that's exactly what happened when we opened up this bottle of Les Folatières from Domaine Leflaive 14 years into its life. Boasting a hugely reductive nose where a hint of minerality accompanied the smokiness, the palate told the tale of this bottle. The upfront boasted a fruity richness as green apple and ripe peach medlied together before a mid-palate focused on power as notes of butterscotch and minerality arose. The reductiveness of the nose came through across the finish as a hint of smoke was present across some great acidity - the sheer weight of this wine was unlike a lot of what I've tasted in Puligny-Montrachet. I'm a believer that Leflaive's Les Folatières opens up considerably quicker than their Les Pucelles offering and this bottle was a testament to that.
