Over ripe and over extracted. Very oaky, ripe black berries, hung meat, dark chocolate, a touch of bottle age. Very pruney. In the mouth, extremely tannic and out of balance. This feels like a wine that is trying too hard in a great vintage - far too much extraction, ripeness and oak handling adds to an intense wine but one which (currently) lacks balance. Of the "big three" hermitages of 1990, this feels oddly the most forward and also the toughest of the three wine and way to the opaque and ripe side of the spectrum (with the Chave at the opposite end of the spectrum and the Jaboulet La Chapelle in the middle, stylistically). 90+? My suggestion would be to drink this sooner, rather than later and make your mind up for future bottles.
