These earlier Feis Ile releases are a real rarity and don't often find their way to auction. Released at Laphroaig distillery during the Feis Ile in 2004, this single cask was selected by Master Blender Robert Hicks as representing the best example of 1987 distillate.

Feis Ile, also known as the Islay Festival of Music and Malt had humble beginnings. It traces it origins back to 1985 and the establishment of The Islay Festival Association after it was realised that an event celebrating Gaelic, music and culture would drive tourism to the island. The inaugural event was two weeks of music, drama and workshops with ceilidhs, concerts and dances in the evening. The first whisky tasting took place as a festival event in 1990, and ten years later the island's distilleries began to be directly involved, organising their annual open days to coincide with it. Today it is one of the biggest events on the whisky calendar, annually drawing hundreds of revellers, and turning out an increasingly sought-after batch of limited edition whiskies like this.

A truly fantastic Laphroaig. Nose Old wood, a little damp, slightly moldy. A subtle, almost subtle note of peat smoke that does not come to the fore. No Laphroaig, who wrinkles his nose with warm tar cardboard, algae and adhesive plasters. He likes it here much more refined, more reserved, although you do not have to do without the Laphroaig character, because it is definitely there, you think you are literally in the middle of the warehouse and inhale the angel's share that escapes from the barrels. This woody dampness and coolness: wait a moment! I'll let myself be locked in here tonight ... Taste ... and can you actually project this feeling, this smell onto the tongue? Obviously, because what hits the tongue here is Laphroaig nectar: sweet and juicy apricots meet light peat smoke, nougat, toffee and milk coffee give depth, wood that is not too dry provides more spice in addition to the smoke. Finish That was the warehouse tour extended version with subsequent tasting and a lot of stories and anecdotes, a few samples straight from the barrel and the soul-swaying walk back to the B&B. In short: the finish is a long, Laphroaig par excellence.
