On the nose, for want of being lazy, there were many of the things that one might associate with the wines in the Leroy stable. Always going to have some stemmy green, some pepper typical of Chorey-les-Beaune wines, mediated by fresh fruit to bring it all together. What was surprising, however, was how primary the nose still was, suggesting that this had aged with grace and poise. That was totally confirmed once I managed to get the wine into my mouth. The fruits were holding up ever so well for a village wine of this age, getting hit with raspberry, blueberry and a hint of tartness. The finish was so long, had enough power about it to make sure that you could happily drink this with foie gras and enjoy the best of both the wine and the food. This was one of the very rare cases where a bottle of Maison Leroy was worth the price point that it commands in today's market. I am slightly confused how this is the case, but I can imagine that this has at least half a decade more of pleasurable drinking.
