Tasting note: (opened from personal storage). This is still quite fresh with its elegant and moderately secondary floral, spice and white orchard fruit aromas that are framed by a just a touch of wood. There is excellent delineation to the focused, racy and intense flavors that deliver solid if not sensational depth and length. This is really very classy juice that will be capable of lasting for another decade and perhaps two as the balance will allow it to do so. That said, this lacks a bit of mid-palate concentration and it doesn't deliver the typical richness, size and power of a classic Bâtard but even so, I like the style. Note: four other recent bottles were clearly oxidized and unfortunately, it would be fair to say that this is one of the Sauzet '96s where there has been significant "pre-mox" problems.
