This '01 grand vin from Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte was another one of my contributions to JK's weekly Wednesday night dinner. This showed quite well and was enjoyed by the entire group. Slow ox'd for about 30 minutes before serving. Tasting notes of blue and black fruits, blackberry, worn leather, tobacco, and forest floor/fall leaves. This didn't have as much of the SHL smoke and tobacco as other vintages do but still present. If you have a handful of these, now would be a good time to check in on them. I wouldn't say they are on the come-down, just saying they are drinking really well at the moment! I scored this wine 94 points.
